One map that wasn't included was Dragon Valley. In a new interview with EA's gaming show PWNED, lead designer Niklas Fegraeus explained why they decided not to use it.

"We looked at the really popular maps from BF2 and one of the really popular classics is Dragon Valley," said Fegraeus. "It is important, I think, that we really maintain what these maps were in order to keep the nostalgia value. We felt it was kind of a drastic change from the Asian setting [of Dragon Valley] to fit it into the BF3 setting, so for this pack Dragon Valley couldn't make the cut."

Each of the maps in "Karkand" had to rebuilt from the ground up with BF3's Frostbite 2 technology. Fegraeus seems to be implying that the conversion process for Dragon Valley would've been tougher than it was for the four maps that were chosen. The fact that he specifies the map didn't make the cut "for this pack" feels like he's leaving the door open for its inclusion sometime down the road, though.

"Karkand" also brings back four vehicles and ten weapons. The weapons will be unlocked through a new assignments progression system. You can download the expansion for free if you own a Limited Edition of BF3. If not, you'll have to pay $15.
