EA Community Manager Ian Tornay has given us an insight into what DICE will be focusing on during the development of Battlefield 4. In particular, DICE will focus on making improvements based on community feedback regarding Battlefield 3. Tornay also addressed the concerns of long-time Battlefield fans who are worried about the pacing of Battlefield game releases.

Every pre-order of the limited or deluxe edition of Danger Close’s upcoming FPS title, Medal of Honor: Warfighter will include Battlefield 4 beta access. However, Tornay stated that “there will be other ways to get into the beta aside from MoH Warfighter. At this time, however, it is the only way to guarantee entry.”

Further details of Battlefield 4 are not expected to be revealed until around November this year, after the release of Warfighter.

In response to the Battlefield 4 announcements, fans have been commenting with statements such as “it’s way too soon!”, which is an opinion many currently share. Tornay took to You must login or register to view this content. to respond to some of the concerns.

“We’ve been seeing a lot of concerns about the pacing of release (i.e. “only” two years after BF3). I think it’s worth noting that DICE has released a Battlefield game every two years or sooner AND Mirror’s Edge at least every two years. I truly believe that we’re in one of the best positions to be creating our next title – Frostbite 2 has matured, we’ve been gathering fan feedback like crazy, Battlefield 3 continues to expand with features which we can learn from, and we’ve got more data about how people play than ever.”

He also lists in the post several items that the DICE team identify as priorities for Battlefield 4. They “recognize that there is a serious desire for, including but not exclusive to”:

  • A better VOIP solution
  • Battle Recorder
  • Spectator Mode
  • More robust eSports support

In your opinion, is it too soon for Battlefield 4? I don't mind if Battlefield 4 launches next year, however, I think the announcement was too early. Wether the Origin post was an accident or not, many gamers believe DICE will stop supporting Battlefield 3 now that Battlefield 4 has been confirmed. What do you think?

It is too soon, I was not expecting any news on BF4 for around 2 years or so or maybe even until next-gen consoles were being announced. I would have thought that Battlefield Bad Company 3 and Medal of Honor Warfighter would try and fill that time gap. But I understand DICE/EA's concern for the many features they missed out on Battlefield 3 and are willing to implement it into Battlefield 4. I just don't want DICE to make the same mistake as infinity ward/sledgehammer when they transitioned from MW2 to MW3. I want Battlefield 4 not Battlefield 3.5

I agree with you. I mean look at BF3 on consoles now. The PS3 can barely handle BF3 as it is but a more advanced game?! Do they want the game to freeze every time you fire a bullet? I know that almost every time I play Gulf of Oman I freeze, and I truly am worried about Armored Kill as well. Oman is the current largest map in BF3 atm, but something bigger with more vehicles? O boy.... Anyways back on topic. DICE says Frostbite 2.0 has matured but it is still the same engine, which i have no problems with, but again consoles had enough trouble running the current Frostbite 2.0, but a 2.1? I'm gonna stop rambling as I think everyone gets my point. I am worried the current generation of consoles won't be able to handle a BF4.

INTERNET HIGH FIVE!!!... No? Gaspkay:

Exactly!!! I sometimes even freeze when I start up Battlefield 3 on the PS3 >_<!!! Hopefully nextgen consoles can run high specs just as much as the PC can.

INTERNET HIGH FIVE!!!!

PC is always going to be better at running games at higher specs than consoles in my opinion, that is until they make a breakthrough in nano tech. I think that companies like Sony and Microsoft need to look at what makes PC's run these games more efficiently and try to do a better job of implementing that into a console. (More RAM, looking into quad cores and even hex or octocores for consoles, better graphics processors. etc)

Off topic - the chick in your sig is HOT
