when you double tap reload you reload faster but loose the ammo the clip had

There also seems to be a bug when you

kill - reload - kill - reload

really fast it seems to drop the whole clip.

Yes it's realistic. Shoot one bullet, reload you lose all the clip. Just as you would in real life.
