it doesnt wok that way bro you cant downgrade or upgrade from 3.40 to 3.41 because the new firmware is 3.42.

put it on a usb drive with theses folders
PS3/UPDATE/update.pup
so you create a folder called PS3 inside that folder you create a sub folder called UPDATE and inside the UPDATE folder you put the pup file.
You must make sure you have the right region version AND you must use caps when creating the folders. To the person above next time explain it properly. You don't just put it on a usb drive

Thanks i got 3.41 but my that ps3 cant read disc and i tryed to switch my hard drive to the other ps3 and it says "The system software cannot be run correnctly. Press the PS button try to restart the system.
If the system cannot be restarted, the system partition of the hard disk must be reformatted and you must reinstall the system software.
Connect storage media that contain update date of version 3.42 or later, and then press the START and SELECT buttons at the same time .
For information on how to obtain update data, refer to the SCE web site for your region.
what should i do put the hard disk back to the other ps3 and format it and put it back to this ps3?

Hey man, it sucks you tried switching the hard drives. I've been combing forums for info on whether or not PSJailbreak is releasing a workaround that will allow gamers to run the exploit on 3.42 an newer firmwares, and it seems that most of the results I when I use "3.41" in the search is a now well known...infamous, I guess...glitch in the software that causes it to brick if you try changing the internal hard drive...with firmware v3.41 installed, of course.
You've probably found this out by now, and because I read it early enough to keep away from hard drive upgrades, I haven't had much incentive to read past the into. I believe there is a "fix"...I just on't know if it involves "upgrading" to the exploit-blocking firmware version 3.42.
Again, you've probably figured this out and I know I haven't been very helpful but I on't have the time to read up and you sound smart enough to figure it out yourself...just google 3.41 HDD/hard drive brick or something.
