Okay so with the new patch that came out people say that Sony is cracking down an banning as the rumor usually go. Juddy has posted how to change patches really quick. You're going to have to look that over first so right-click and open in a new tab:

Now that you know what you're going to be doing get you jump drive and back it up. Usually it gives you an error 800283E4. What you're going to want to do is go to your network settings and disable internet connection for now.

If it says that you need a ridiculous amount of more space, go into your game data utility and delete some. Back-Up each patch one by one and repeat.

Not sure but I tried it on both of my PS3's and got the error on both of them. This is here just to help out that problem. Did you restore after backing up?
