Post: MW3 Round-Up (Spawn Logic, Face Off Weekends, July Content)

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This week in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 news, July content drops are scheduled for release any day now both Xbox 360 & PS3. Not only that, but the much loved map Terminal will return to the Modern Warfare series next week and Face Off will feature another new game mode this weekend.

In non-DLC related news, Infinity Ward's Mark Rubin has clarified how the Modern Warfare 3 spawn system chooses your spawn location, and why it doesn't always work.

Face Off Weekend Game Mode

Last time it was Search & Destroy and Team Defender on the 2v2 and 3v3 Face Off playlists, this weekend we can expect Domination to début in the Face Off playlist. Candice Capen, the Infinity Ward Community Coordinator, You must login or register to view this content. that flag re-arranging was necessary for smoother Face Off gameplay.

Finding the right gameplay balance can be difficult, hence the delay for Domination in the Face Off playlist.

July Content Drops

Two multiplayer maps and one Spec Op Mission are scheduled for release this month for Xbox 360. The exact date is unknown, however expect the announcement to be made “this Thur[sday]” roughly “10am PST”, according to You must login or register to view this content., Infinity Ward Executive Producer. PS3 this month will receive three Face Off maps and one Spec Op Mission.

Xbox 360 players can expect Terminal to drop July 17th for ELITE subscribers, and July 18th for non-ELITE players. No news about Terminal for PS3 & PC yet, however it is safe to assume PS3 can expect it one month later than the drop for Xbox 360.

The Modern Warfare 3 Spawn System

The spawn system, a highly controversial subject in the world of Call of Duty, has had some light shed on it by Mark Rubin:

So yea Spawning. There are X number of spawns per map. Each one gets weighted depending on based on enemy locations, friendly locations and visibility to any killstreaks. It has to spawn you when you hit the button. So it looks at all the values for those spawn points and puts at the one with best number. The system is really simplistic and definitely needs work. But when you spawn at a given point it’s the spawn that the logic felt was safest. Which relative to other spawns it may be even if it doesn’t feel like it. Also many times the spawn check and spawning in happens a split second before the KS appears/launches. So I could launch a predator pointing somewhere else on the map, you spawn and I slew the predator on you at that same second. There is no way for the code to know that 1 sec from now that is going to happen. Anyway hope that little insight on how spawning works helps.

Acknowledging that it needs more work, Rubin has made a valid point that decisions are made in a split-second, and that there is many variables to monitor. In some cases you will be spawned in danger, even if the spawn system thought it was logically safe. The spawn system is one of the three main things that are being worked on for improvements in future updates, along with multiplayer matchmaking and lag compensation. These are all 3 hot topics of discussion within the community.

Combat Training in Modern Warfare 3

Combat Training will not make an appearance in Modern Warfare 3. Combat Training allowed users to practice on multiplayer maps against bots, which had various difficulty settings. When asked if MW3 will add any feature to practice against bots, Rubin replied ”not going to happen for MW3. It’s not something that could be added with a simple patch. Patches are limited on what they can do.”

Balance Pass

Dubbed the 'mid-year refresh', the balance pass is scheduled to take place in a couple of weeks. It will be looking at buffing and nerfing weapons, deathstreaks, pointstreaks, equipment and anything else deemed fit for a re-balance. Infinity Ward Multiplayer Designers will be sitting down soon to discuss the changes. What would you like to see buffed or nerfed?

That's it for news this week for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Is there anything that particularly excites you about anything you read above, or at this point are you more interested in Black Ops II news?

It's not that simple, the modders made a whole new "game-mod" by using the coding that is already present in the game, the developers would have to put more coding into the game to create a combat training mod along with giving the bots real function instead of the mindless bots modders use that just run around and randomly fire their guns so others can kill them
