FAQ: Programming
- by: TheUnexpected

What will be covered in this FAQ:

  • What language is the best to use?
  • What IDE should I use?
  • Where do I begin to learn code?
  • What OS is the best to use when programming?

If you have anything you want to add to this, PM me and I'll add it asap.

What language is the best to use?
This question I see alot on the interwebs... This question you need to ask yourself, such as what you want to do in programming.

C#/VB.NET/Visual C++ are only used on Windows OS
C/C++/Java are used on all OS
Python is used on multiple OS - Shadow

Keep in mind if you are going for C/C++ you need to just read a few books on the language before attempting to code.

What IDE should I use?
This question comes down to user preferance.

C#/VB.NET/Visual C++ you need to use - Microsoft's IDE (Visual Studio)
C/C++ you can use many such as - Code::Blocks, Visual C++ Express (free) ect
Java you can use multiple IDE's - Eclipse, Netbeans ect

Where do I begin to learn code?
Where I started was google and books. I took sometime to figure out what I wanted to make/do in programming and I found the most suitable language for me.

Most people say to start with books, yes you need to. That's where you will learn the most, yeah there are some good tutorials out there on the interwebs, but don't just learn off of them.

There are websites such as:

or buy pdf/real book or rent books from the public library where you live.

What OS is the best to use when programming?
This comes down to what you want to do with programming.
Disregard the famous quote "Pros use Linux." No, it depends on what you want to do with programming as I said above.

C#/VB.NET/Visual C++ is only Windows
C/C++/Java is all OS

I'm a god.
You forgot Python.. It's a multiple OS language, though it might not be used much it's still good and fairly easy.

Complete Speed
Do a barrel roll!
I think it's better to not use an ide, unless you're gonna be making gui then use visual studio.
but it's a lot lot better for people to learn to compile code without an ide doing all the work for them. as for what language i've already said before, you can choose any language what you will need is dedication. also just pick one and stick with it.
