Even if there would be a patch without those exploits, it wouldn't have been so severe
Trust me. Destiny is not that hard to complete (the raid on hard mode). There's not a lot of "rare" items compared to the Vex gun. Many legitimate clans have already beaten VoG on hard mode in less than 3 weeks and some of them have already got Vex - and I assume the newer Raids will be just the same (same time length as VoG and the same number of newer weapons.)
My point is that a team of semi-competent / willing players with patience, mics and average skills (aiming and reaction) are very likely to beat anything on hard mode; thus higher chance of getting the best weapons. The current content of Destiny was already beaten in less than 3 weeks. And we all know that Bungie doesn't add more content quickly.
Even if this glitch was never discovered, more people will still get the Vex eventually. And you have to consider the fact that there will be PVP crybabies who whine about being killed by overpowered weapons in PVP. There are two different types of gamer on Destiny: one that purely competes in PVE and the other one that purely competes in PVP. There are PVP clans and they will definitely cry about the overpowered guns and they couldn't get such said weapons because they don't often play PVE.
Bungie have explicitly said "We all want to listen to what you have to say" because they don't want players to quit and they want players to stay with them - all for "better experience".
In WoW a while back, hardcore PVE players that got the crazy weapons from the heroic raids use them in PVP (especially the Arena) and with the best guns, they have totally raped PVP hardcore players, which was unfair. That's.... until Blizzard have nerfed the PVE weapons for PVP to make everything more balanced. Glitch or not, players will always cry.
You have no idea how a MMO works, do you? Destiny completely sucks at balancing, their content sucks (so small and it doesn't take a lot of time to get the best stuff) and their deadline (for next expansion) is way too long... for such a small content. I know that Destiny is just a new game with bugs and unbalances, but I wouldn't expect them to improve dramatically within the upcoming months.
