Post: Is this essay any good???

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok i'm not gonna post how its being graded in an effort to save time here, but just please give me a solid answer, 0-10.

This year in English has been great. I have learned a lot about writing skills, and have grown to become a better over-all English student this year. The books we read were very interesting, better than previous years without a doubt. I learned a lot this year about punctuation and grammar.
My weakest piece of work in my portfolio would most likely be my Romeo and Juliet Critical Lens Essay. The main reason I did so poorly on it (65% just passing...) is because I find Shakespeare’s writing very difficult to understand. The reason I find his writing hard to understand is because the way he writes is like a whole other language to me. If Shakespeare used modern language, I would understand it, but he didn’t. I get what “All literature shows us the power of emotion” means; I just can’t fully understand how to connect that to Shakespeare’s writing. It is easy to understand how to connect that quote to individual times in the play. I could have improved this by having a better understanding of Shakespeare’s “language” he uses.
My strongest piece of work in my portfolio would probably be my Speak Response. I know the reason I did so well on it (85% is OK) is because I really took my time and read thoroughly after I wrote it. One new thing I tried was using my old notes/homework to look back on and take info from them, to put on this homework. This was a good grade because I did this. Old homework’s/notes can be very useful because they contain very useful info on your current topic you are learning about.
I don’t make too many errors with using grammar, but when I do the most frequent error would probably be using S with apostrophe correctly. Example: dog. Is the plural dogs or dog’s? That would be the most occurring error. Another one would be choosing to use a semi colon or a period. I get the basics of what a semicolon means, but if I don’t know, I’ll just use a period. A third error that happens to me would be using “of” or “have “in a sentence. Example: I would have/of stopped on my bike. Those errors occur often.
Hands down, without a doubt, my favorite piece of literature was All But My Life. I don’t like reading fictional/realistic fiction books because I feel they are pointless. The reason they seem pointless to me is because it didn’t actually happen, so why are we learning and being tested on it? It didn’t even happen in real life! I enjoyed reading and being tested on All But My Life because the Holocaust actually happened. That is why it is my favorite and is more important to me. I liked the poster we made in class because it gives everyone a visual representation of the book. Gerda was the main character of the book, and she actually exists, unlike fictional literature.
My 9th grade English class was for the most part, a learning process. It was very different from previous years of English in the means that this year, we did things that I actually enjoyed learning more in depth about. I hope in 10th grade English we do some of the same activities, but I also hope it changes some things too.

Hmmm, to be brutally honest; I will have to give it a '4', I'd usually have some constructive criticism, unfortunately it is 2am Not Happy or Sad =D (Don't be put off by my low ranking, as you didn't state what level of writing it is (KS1/2/3/4+) Smile '4' for KS4 Smile

this is coming from a guy who has cambridge and turns it multi page essays . This essay is at a 4th grade level . You could have been way more vivid in your adjectives . For example i am sure you cant find a synonym for "likely " , "difficult" , "poorly" , "well" , "great" , "strongest" , and "old". You didn't cite a quote(s) as well . On top of that you should elaborate way more . Not to sound like a douchebag but i give this a 5 , much improvement is necessary.

Ok...... thanks i guess. This is better than I usually do.... constructive criticism is always good. But fourth grade?? Come on man. Be realistic. And I'm not really an A+ student if you catch my drift.. But every one of you gave me something to think about.

For a 9th Grade English Essay I would either give you a C or D+. You use boring adjectives and your sentence starters are just frankly terrible. You don't bother trying to blend your sentences together. Not to mention you are constantly repeating yourself.

If you haven't handed it in yet, you really need to improve the introduction and organize the paragraphs more. You also need to make sure the transitions from each topic is smooth as long as you do that you are good :y:.
