I honestly think it is both. Yes it is cowardly because you are running away from your problems by just giving up and taking your life, and no because you have to have a lot of courage to take your own life. It's a very selfish thing to do though.
Side-note: Not I am not suicidal :b My life is great right now, I'm just curious on what other people think about the subject. (:

I'm A Rep Whore (11-26-2011)

use to think it was the craziest thing ever that someone would kill themself, but now ive finally experienced real depression, anxiety, and a few other aweful feelings, and lately have thought of it quite a bit. i could never do that to my mom, shes said before she doesnt know if she could live if something like that happened, i couldnt do something that selfish, especially since things have been getting better lately, its rough though some times, some times i just lay in my bed and cry and think about it, also i think of what the people in my school would say if i did, everything like that.

You insulted me with such claims, that's why I dislike people that create threads they have next to no knowledge on.
Now think how bad it's for people that have their family as the cause of the depression and pain, I just can't comprehend the level of depression and pain they're experiencing. I couldn't have gotten past my depression without support from my family either.

I didn't claim shit bro. I stated my view, and said to discuss. You flipped your top because according to you I have no knowledge on the subject, which is correct. I've never been depressed. But, you didn't have to make your post rude, you could've kept the discussion civil.

I would have if it wasn't so personal, I'm usually quite mature in debates but I got hot headed as it looked disrespectful and in-fact it was to me. Anyway, I hope we're done with the petty arguing and I hope to see you in another thread where we don't annoy each-other, lol.

The meaning/motif of a person's suicide vary depending on that person's situation and physical/mental state. Like Clutch Hunter said, it's subjective.
Personal Opinion: Three years back from this very day my highschool friend killed himself. We still don't know why he committed suicide as there were no "apparent" signs of emotional distress or conflict. From a bystander's perspective you would say that he had no reason to kill himself... He went to a great highschool, he had a lot of friends, got accepted to a good college and his future looked bright. But the fact that my friend bought a gun meant that he thought about committing suicide and it was just a matter of time... For a person to say that suicide is a "cowards way out" and that it is a selfish act means, that person never experienced/witnessed such abstract emotional struggles or the various settings/situations that create those emotional conflicts within a person. You are merely analyzing the situation of a suicide, you don't truly understand it.
~If you don't believe my story about my friend just PM me and I will provide proof...

Suicide is basically you telling God, "You can't fire me! I quit!!"
