Spoiler:
Seeing as NGU is involved in this movement (like me), I wanted to make sure that everybody understood what this "censorship" thing is al about.

What is SOPA? Why is it important?
SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) has been proposed by the US government in october 2011, its objective is to help fight copyright infragment material. (**Basically you wont be able to download your favorite movies,tv shows, music, FACEBOOk,TWITTER,etc) You might bbe worndering why would facebook, twitter, any website to stream online movies etc be blocked. Its simple, if SOPA gets approved it would have a very hard time to control these websites from spreading the copyright material so they will ahve to be shut down.SOmething i want to make very clear is that not only will it stop the copyright infragment but it will also stop freedom of speech For example, lets say that a reporter uploads important news to youtube it will be blocked, or even worse if he writes his news in a blog and links it youtube or a website that SOPA doesnt approved that website will be blocked as well.
Whats bad about illegal downloads being stopped?
Im not going to take sides here, this is personal opinion. I believe that every author deserves money for their hard work. But also there is people that simply dont have the access to certain programs other people have. SO the only way they can get them is by downloading them illegally.
 Im not in america WHY SHOULD I CARE?
It will affect you not directly exactly. However most sites have an american DOMAIN that will still stop you froma ccesing it even tho you are not in america.
"HA! I will just use VPN :mask:
Sorry to break it to you, but what gets blocked is the website so using VPN wont make a difference
How can i acces them if this does happen? HOW CAN I STOP IT?
The only way that occurs to me (please share if you have any other ideas) is by ip adress.
How can you stop it. The only real way is by supporting all the people against it
Two websites that help prevent this awful law from beign approved
Conclusion:
- You will have to pay for warez
- Your freedom of speech rights will be abused
- Even though ur not in america it WILL STILL AFFECT U!
- Might harm the development of future websites
Fun facts:
- Sopa in spanish means soup =D
- Sopa in greek means Shut up (

VICTORY! Because of immense public pressure, the House Judiciary Committee cancelled their vote on the bill that would kill Internet innovation and free speech — and adjourned for the rest of the year!
The Internet fought back to protect the Internet — and we won, for now. We have to assemble our Internet army for next year, when this bill will come up again.
Glad its been stopped. At least for a year

No one replied, so im gonna guess no one saw it and re-post what i said earlier..:
i do not think this will happen, even if it does, it will not last very long as it is technically unconstatutional (if your american, you should understand what that means)
and people could easily take this as a case to the supreme court.
correct me if im wrong? i live in the UK and the American law system is very different to the system we have over here![]()
If this shit passes then I would have to break the law CONSTANTLY for my own entertainment

I don't think Facebook and Twitter and Tumblr and all that will be too seriously affected, that's true. What you (and a few others are missing, though) is that SOPA undermines a VERY important part of the DMCA. The DMCA does not hold website owners accountable for what their users post. SOPA will. That said, YouTube, 4shared, Megaupload, and tons of forum communities (NGU has the occasional pirated content shared; definitely in the Premium Forums...) will be put at risk.
As for the "is it possible?" idea... the fact of the matter is that this is an incredibly slippery slope. If our government finds it necessary to censor the Internet, what else are they willing to take down? Will they censor press because they don't agree with it? What if another country starts disagreeing with us and spreads some (true or false) information about us. Would they block our access to it?
@unconstitutional argument:
Elasticity clause. Congress may make ALL laws necessary and proper.
Interstate commerce clause: Congress can regulate handling of money across state lines. If I download something in Florida that was bought in Washington, can Congress regulate that? SURE CAN!

See there is no argument to be had here, our opinions differ too greatly. I see piracy as stealing and always will. Yes, it is not as literal as stealing something in "real life" but much more discreet. The first hand effects of piracy are not seen directly by the pirate, so they deem it then to be ok. Although if you steal something from a shop, you can see how you have taken any profit away from that business that could have been made from that product, especially if this is a small family business. I think the internet has this effect where it changes peoples morality because they cannot comprehend what effects their actions will have.
And I have to return to my point of this view that "I can have it because he has it" and "That's not fair I want that", these lead to people pirating software because they believe they are entitled to things they cannot afford based on the fact that others can. There will always be people who can afford things you cannot, just because you cannot too does not give you the right to have these things for free. Our society does not run like that, you may think that it is not fair, but it is the fundamental ruling of capitalism.
People will always exploit and ruin things when they are given too much freedom. This is reminiscent throughout history. This is what is happening on the internet right now, it needs to be restricted to stop it.

I understand what you're saying but honestly it all falls on deaf ears when as I highlighted in my original post piracy - assuming those who can actually afford software etc buy it - is a positive thing.
I've grown up with the internet, and I've pirated overpriced stuff ever since I learned how to. Yet I know perfectly well that I have no right to this stuff. Does that mean I'm going to stop? No. If it's only a positive thing for all parties then I'll keep right on doing it.

Yeah this is bullshit guys. Sign every petition you can against this. But make sure you READ what it is you're signing first, don't be tricked into signing something that promotes it!
