    Default I need religious help....

Hi. I need some religious help, and I want SERIOUS answers only! Ok, so my family are all Christians. They are not "hardcore" Christians, but they try to attend Church every Sunday. Up until a few years ago, I believed in a God. I stopped believing in a higher power a few years ago. I am now Atheist. I am scared that if I tell them, that they will think less of me, or rather "hate" me. I'm stuck in a crisis here, and I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Okay, we all have different opinions and differs religions. As your family are Christians they should accept you and your beliefs no matter what. Tell them what you think and why you think it. Don't follow a religion if you don't know why your following it. Anyway it's your family they should stick strong and help you. Good luck with it all mate. Even ask a priest or a church leader for help. Maybe even a school teacher you trust may be able to help.

I know why I used to follow Christianity, but I do not believe that now. I'm also scared that if I admit it to them, that they will try to "convert" me, or leave me out of things until I cooperate with them, and convert back.

Well as Christians they should be caring and forgiving and acceptable about it.

As far as telling them, I would say you should. It is better for you to really embrace your belief. Don't be afraid to be your own person and believe like you see fit.

If you feel like you must tell your parents, you should. When telling them, you really don't want it to turn into a massive yelling scenario. Try to explain calmly and why. I don't know what the relationship with your parents is like, but you are their son and they should be supportive.

Good luck, hope everything works out

I personally feel differently, as someone with a Christian family. I tend to grin and bear their pushing of their religion on me - and I have nothing against Christianity at all... but I don't think of religion in my day-to-day life, so I don't talk to anyone about it. I think if they're real hardcore Christians then they might give you a hard time for not being one, and that's something that I don't want to deal with, myself.

Almost the same thing with me, one side of my family is Religious the other isn't. It really depends on the family. I've told my dad (he believes in God) that I don't believe in God, he wasn't very happy but he ignored it. I think that's what your family will do with you. If they are VERY religious (pray before meals, mass on Sunday, pray in the evening, etc..) I don't think you should tell them, just pretend your praying and act like you actually believe, I know it might be a bit hard to keep a secret like this. Try make an excuse on Sunday, and say you'll watch the mass on TV (I don't know if you can watch mass on TV in the US ) I think even if you decide to tell them, they'll be supportive in any situation. It kinda hard to say because only you know your family. It's your choice.
