Twitter Avatar: 127 x 127 pixels
Twitter Background: 1280 x 1024 is the preferred size
Youtube Avatar: 800 x 800 pixels is the correct one :p
Youtube Background: 1750 x 1260 pixels
Not sure if these are exactly correct, but I'm trusting the power of inspect element along with Google :p

I not sure about twitter, 1280×1024px, maybe greater.

I don't think twitter's backgrounds don't optimize the size so it fits 100 percent of the screen so, it will repeat any dimension you have. But I guess you can use 1680 x 1200 px :p
Twitter Avatars are automatically resized to 73x73, but from what I've looked up, it says to use an image that is at least 300px in width and or height.
The new youtube layout size is 2000w x 3000l

- Twitter Avatar: Twitter Avatars are displayed in four different sizes.
- 48x84: Displayed along side your tweets.
- 73x73: Displayed on your profile page, when the user viewing isn't logged in.
- 128x128: Displayed on your profile page, when the user viewing is logged in.
- Orginal Size: The original size of your avatar uploaded. So to answer your question, 250x250 should be more than okay. :blank:

- Twitter Background:This one is a wee bit hard, because every user that will be viewing your twitter profile will have a different screen resolution, but after some research 99% of users use a 1024px wide resolution. So it would be best to use a 66px wide dimension. (height doesn't really matter.)
