Post: The Workout, Health and Nutrition Thread
02-21-2013, 11:08 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I am going to get in shape. But I was blessed with a fast metabolism as a kid and was very active. It has been only in the last few years living this so called "real life" that I have turned into someone unhealthy and in a shape I do not want to be in. I have no clue how to get healthy. I do not know what foods to eat, good exercises and good habits to work into my day to day.

So I am making this thread to gather and share info for anyone else looking to get in shape or just hit a physical goal. Anyone with input please share. This thread is to help encourage me to achieve my goal, and I hope others can set their goals and as a community support each other to reach them. I will update with more info tomorrow.

So by being out of shape, I assume that you want to lose fat. Well, definitely easier said than done, but it is all dependent on your will power, along with finding the correct sources/information. I've lost around 130 LBS if I remember correctly, so you are in safe hands. All of these information/sources are backed up by science, and none of these are my findings. If I stumbled upon these pre-transformation, I'd have been in a much better shape, but well nothing to regret. Be glad you can see these now!

Let's start..

  • It is all calories in vs calories out. Each of us burns a certain number of calories a day doing nothing, it is dependent on your genes, weight and height. What does this mean? It means that just because you have been running/walking for 15 minutes, you can't go and reward yourself by a donut! This is the sabotage to almost all fat loses! Check this thread on how to calculate your calorie intake/MacroNutrients, along with some other useful information:

  • When dieting to lose fat, you MUST follow a lifting routine in order to preserve your current muscle mass. Not only this will make you look way better in the mirror, but it will also help you lose more fat, as more muscle means a faster metabolism. More over, you will burn more calories in the 24-48 hours following your workout.

Here is a workout that I suggest : You must login or register to view this content.

  • Forget about ordinary cardio, there is a much faster and more efficient way called HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) Cardio. This subject will take much space, so I'll just link you to a well written and detailed article.

  • Supplements? Fat burners are absolutely useless in the BBing industry and just another way for companies to cash in . Ask this yourself, if this product is really a fat burner it should burn fat without you working out and just eating your maintenance, but it is never the case. Just drink 3-4 cups of green tea daily, along with a multi-vitamin, you'll be set.

  • Reward yourself with a cheat meal once a month. It will help you keep your sanity, and will save you from occasional binging, as you will have a day/meal to look forward to. Just make sure that you don't go over your caloric maintenance.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
