(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Given my (in)sane car obsession, a term I often come across, and that is more than often misused, is “RICE.” Most people generalize that term unfairly and match it up with Japanese cars instantly. For starters, the Internet has agreed on the acronym of R.I.C.E to play out as Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. Nowhere in that explanation does the meaning hint at the cars having to be Japanese to be rice.

Looking back in the early 2000’s, when Fast and the Furious first hit the big screens, this type of “RICE” modifications may have been acceptable; although, borderline hideous. I admit, I thought having a sick bodykit and a massive wing on your car was cool, but I soon realized it wasn’t. Pointless visual modifications throw your car into the category of RICE. Not to slay ethnicities, but a lot of Mexicans are the ones who still continue to contribute to the inglorious world of RICE modifications. Take a Honda Civic for example. I’ve seen a countless number of them with chrome wheels that barely squeeze inside the wheel well. In addition to an unnecessarily huge wing on a car barely pushing out 125 horsepower, they throw on hugely hideous bodykits, hood vents, roof scoops, and trashy chrome lights. Now, THAT is RICE. All of the modifications are cosmetic and race inspired; yet, they serve to purpose given performance.

I’m not bashing modifying a car, but there is a proper way to go about it if you’re serious about improving the way it drives. Start with suspension, tires, and brakes. Things that seem irrelevant play the biggest factors. Unless you’re SexySolo, you aren’t driving a Ferrari. And most of us on here don’t. I love to modify cars. The way I see it, a car from the factory is limited and tamed. Through hours of hard work, part swapping and eagerly waiting at your doorstep for the UPS guy to arrive, you end up with a car that is much more than what you originally had. And all of that can be done without a huge spoiler and wide bodykit. I don’t see why one would modify an Exotic car, but not all of us can get at them. Since that’s my case, I find it enjoyable to buy a cheaper, older car and put a little more money into it to unleash its fury.

A real car enthusiast loves and appreciates all cars. Or, they have legitimate reasons for not liking a car. They don’t use the term RICE when it doesn’t fit. To put it short, RICER’s aren’t only Japanese cars, but ALL cars. I’ve seen BMW’s and even the precious American Muscle that is Mustang riced. Don’t believe me? Check these pics out.

Now, there's many more that fit both of the categories, but I just picked a few. As you can see, JDM, USDM, EDM, and all other places that manufacture cars can fall into both playing fields. So, next time, please be mindful when you use the term RICE.

BUT.. at the end of the day, it's your car. Do what you will, and don't give a fuck about what others say if it makes you happy.

Hmm.. I don't know where to begin here... but let me give it a go. I'm assuming - from your name and sig - that you're a girl..? If so, then I can sort of compensate your post. But at the same time, it bothers me haha. The "nice" cars may look ugly to you, but that's subjective. Beauty is ultimately in the eye of the beholder so sure, you can call them ugly, but I marvel at how pretty they are Smile From a Fairlady, an R32, E36's to STi's, those are pristine cars. Car enthusiasts would feel me, and if cars aren't really your cup of tea, then yea I guess you could say what you did. But I'd like to ask you something.. post a picture of a car that you like..?

There are two types of people in this world of automotive craze, and you inevitably fall in the category I don't socialize with. Personally, that Z rocking Volk's is beautiful. But, that's me and you're you.. so to each their own. Like I requested above, would you care to post a picture of a car that isn't "shit" ? I can already imagine what you will post, but please do so.

hahaha I LOL'd. Nigga, my SOHC is just a daily slow gas saver, so stfu. That EM1 in the post is a nice DOHC which is tastefully modded.

I know man, I know.. but it hurts me to accept these things. It's hard, and it hurts :( haha

You're literally too stupid to insult, so I will educate instead. These "poverty" cars you speak of aren't close to "poverty." Good luck buying yourself a pair of TE37's while dealing with poverty. Better yet, good F'n luck importing an R32 into the US while living in poverty. The only thing that's close to poverty is the civic.. but not the one I posted. Sure, they are cheap, affordable and reliable cars. But, for the most part, whilst being poor, nobody will buy a freakin' Si. Those cars from the factory are decent, but of course, like you stupidly stated, nothing close to a Ferrari. But come on, compare the price difference, age, and economical situation of the average, sort of doing well, American. Buying a car for a few grand and then dumping a few more grand into it to make it stand out from its tamed factory version is something I deeply respect. When kids like you ignorantly talk about things you've not a clue about, it somewhat ticks me off. But that's ok, I'm not mad. It just shocked me that you compared an STi to a poverty car, which I actually laughed a bit at. So, thank you for that.

With all that off my chest, have a nice day! X_X
