what does a root do?

basically its jailbreak for an android phone.

i have verizon edge so when i upgrade phone i have to give it back would it be worth it rooting it?

if you root ur phone it voids warrantly so no it isnt

do you really get anythign good from it besides the apps?
like on how apple jailbreak you can edit names and screens and shit??

you can do that already on an android without root. just look up some apps for it

or seatch it on youtube :p

I would HIGHLY suggest not rooting your phone if you have to return it... I had to send in my G2 for a replacement model a few months back, and they saw that it was rooted. (Voiding the warranty) They charged my account $500 because of that. It really sucked, seeing as I got the phone for $30! Safe to say my father is still pissed off about that, even though I paid it.

If you have to send it back in, DO NOT root your device.
