I know that everyone has been having a problem to join or invite friends in lobbys but now I have found a soloution which I found today.

Step 1: Press 'start' and go to the 'online' tab
Step 2: Click on 'crews' then on 'friends crews'
Step 3: find your friends crew
Step 4: When you have found your friends crew you then need to hover on it and click 'X (PS3) or A(XBOX)',
Step 5: Click on 'View Members'
Step 6: Find your friend in that list then click on their name and it should let you join or invite them.

I have tried it on PS3 so it should work on PS4, XBOX 360 & XBOX ONE.

I agree with you

On PS4 it can work by joining your friends session through the party chat, not sure if the same can be done for 360/One. As for PS3, probably best to stick to the crew joining way.
