Here is a starter kit I prepared for Paint.NET, a great GFX program. It is a good program overall, and is wonderful for beginners and experienced GFXer's alike.

• Paint.NET Installation
  
• UnFreeze GIF Animator
  
• Fonts
  
• Paint.NET Effects
  
• More Brushes with Brush plugin, ability to make your own brushes
  
• PhotoShop File Support (.PDF)
  
• Ability to make Icons for cursors and program Icons

First, install Paint.NET with the installation. (File is at the bottom of this post)

Then, copy and paste all the effects to C:\Program Files\Paint.NET\Effects (Default location)

Next, copy and paste all the fonts to the Fonts folder (accessible through Control Panel)

You should be able to do almost anything with this program other than complex animation.

I like using this for simple signatures better than PhotoShop because it is much easier to use and get used to.

Get Paint.NET Custom Brushes - Ultimate Paint.NET V1.2 and later
1. Paint.NET Custom brushes are basically .png files, ideally 100px x 100px, 96dpi
2. To create your own brush, click Add Brush and open an image file from your computer.
3. In Paint.NET go to Effects -> Draw with custom brush (make sure you installed the plug-in first)
