(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok i just wanted to play ina private match with my 2 buddies to even see if the lag switch is worth it or more of a head ache.

i had a spare light switch in a drawer and a spare 15 ft cat 5 cable.

i stripped the sheathing fromthe wires, located the SOLID ORANGE wire that was intertwined with the orange/white wire

i cut the ORANGE WIRE only and connected both ends to the switch and it doesnt work.

even more funny i started a private match as host invited my 2 buddies i completed took the switch out leaving the ORANGE WIRE completely disconnected and we stil played no problem

WTF

how the hell were we playing with no lag or disconnects with one wire in my CAT 5 cable not even connected

that doesnt make sense.

there are two types of CAT5 ethernet: T568A (the one you must have) and T568B. with T568A, you must cut the SOLID GREEN wire. with T568B, you must cut the SOLID ORANGE wire.

just use the solid green, and set your internet settings on your ps3 to 10base-T full duplex and it should work Winky Winky.

Got ya guys thanks a lot.

i dont even know if i will like the darn thing. seems like a headache to have to hav a controler in your hand and then flick a switch in time.

can anyone tell me why we were playing just fine though with one wire completely disconnected?

being that there are 2 cat 5 cables as you mentioned i am going to assume here that not all wires in every cat 5 cable are used to transfer data depending on the internet settings?

correct. in T568A the solid orange isn't used.

ok i guess im doing something wrong then

i switched my PS3 settings to 10base-T full duplex

then i cut the green wire and nothing

so keeping these settings and then i went and undid the orange wire and now it disconnnects me like i want it to

si i hook up the switch using the orange wire and start COD5 and go into a private match and as soon as i flick the switch it logs me out and says i need a network connection to play online

is this something new thats been implemented or wtf

*** Edit i also checked wikipedia i have a T568B that has the solid orange wire in PIN 2 so i am cutting the right wire

if i am using a T568B cable do i still keep my PS3 settings at 10base-T full duplex? or something different?

How about two standards for terminating the ends of cat5 instead of two types of cat5.

it looks like your ps3 is detecting a voltage difference. try connecting your switch to the cable going from your modem to your router:

modem----(s)----router-----ps3

i fixed it..
i went back and set my PS3 to use 10BASE T HALF Duplex and now the switch works perfectly

its really cheap though

i treid it in a few rank matches and went 20 killls and 1 death( martydom) several times and got so much hate mail from pther players saying that i was a lag fag switch user.

so theres no real point to use this since everyone knows when you are using it and its always obvious who has one since they have the most kills nd least deaths.

i dont think ill use this anymore just doesnt feel right
