Do a barrel roll!
I found MineZ through a friend and it is currently my favourite online Minecraft Server.
Before you read this, I DO NOT work with or alongside the MineZ server creators, I just really enjoy the server.
MineZ
MineZ is a DayZ inspired server with over 160,000 unique players and over 1000 players online at any given time. MineZ is a Minecraft mod coded entirely at the server level. This means anyone with a legal copy of Minecraft can join the servers and experience the thrill of the zombie apocalypse without any change to their Minecraft client. The plugin sports a growing set of features that make MineZ a unique experience.
Specs
Custom Zombie AI
The custom built AI means zombies will deal higher damage to a player and move much more quicker, it is near impossible to outrun them without hiding. MineZ uses the experience bar to show player visibility, allowing players to identify what actions are causing zombies to swarm them. Zombies on this server will also investigate noises coming from such areas leaving them a deadly threat as apposed to original Minecraft Zombies. Similar to DayZ, heading north will give better chances of greater loot but head too far and you may run into giant zombies. Be warned.
Inventory Management
Players start with barely any equipment: a damaged wooden sword, a leather chest piece, a water bottle filled with water, eye of ender that is used for speaking to other players over a distance and a piece of paper that is used for a bandage. Survivors must find their equipment in chests found within towns, ruins, castles, and dungeons. Certain areas sport different equipment, and each chest is randomly generated from an extensive loot table. This means every adventure will be different, as the items will be different each time you visit a location. In addition, most items do not stack, meaning players must make careful choices in what to carry on their journey.
Health, food and thirst
Health regeneration is disabled in MineZ, meaning a player has to use a potion or eat food to regain health. Hunger is important as food is rare so players have to make the choice when running or climbing. Infected flesh can be eaten but if you have a bucket of milk in your inventory you will not get poisoned. Thirst is also important as you use Glass Bottles on the sea or a water source to refill them, thirst is displayed by the XP level you are currently on (20 is max hydration and 5 is starting to get dehydrated).
Server qualities
There are 15 public servers across the US and EU, which may increase in time. There are also 12 private servers across the US and EU which require a purchase of a package which is available under the "Get Access!" tab. The world is hand built and has a large area that includes forts, villages, watchtowers and lighthouses. The server also includes cross server persistence where all of your player data is stored in a central database which means if you are logged into one instance and your friend is in another, you can disconnect and reconnect into another instance.
PvP and Co-op
PvP is always turned on in MineZ, if you recognise a player as friendly or would not like to engage them the common salute is to Crouch (Shift) and Deflect (Right-click). Co-op can be risky when dealing with unknown players as betrayal is a common instance throughout the server.
Starting out
As soon as you connect to an instance you will be placed into a waiting room where you are shown a guide and basic tutorial. Typing "/minez spawn" will spawn you into the game. It is recommended to hold shift and press F3 which will run the debug monitor to find your co-ordinates and to travel along the coast to ensure you don't run into any well armed players.
FINALLY
It is really not hard to survive, you just have to think smart. If you think to yourself, what would I do if zombies actually attacked… Well you wouldn’t be just running about looking for loot would you? You would be careful, precise and cunning – This is survival.
