Last night was the annual video game awards which sums together the best video games across multiple platforms of 2011. Obviously in the list their will be no surprise of some of these winners and they are well deserved. Here is a list of the winners of each category:

Best PC Game: Portal 2
Best PS3 Game: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Best Xbox 360 Game: Batman: Arkham City
Best Graphics: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Best Shooter: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Best DLC: Peer Review (Portal 2)
Best Downloadable Game: Bastion
Best Performance By a Human Female: Ellen McLain as GladOS (Portal 2)
Best Performance By a Human Male: Stephen Merchant as Wheatley (Portal 2)
Best Original Score: Bastion
Best Song in a Game: ‘Build that Wall (Zia’s Theme) By Darren Kobb (Bastion)
Best Adapted Game: Batman: Arkham City
Best Motion Game: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Best Independent Game: Minecraft
Best Fighting Game: Mortal Kombat
Best Driving Game: Forza Motorsport 4
Best Team Sports Game: NBA 2K12
Best Individual Sports Game: Fight Night Champion
Best Multi-Player: Portal 2
Best RPG: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Best Action Adventure Game: Batman: Arkham City
Best Handheld/Mobile Game: Super Mario 3D Land
Best Wii Game: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Studio of the Year: Bethesda Game Studios

And lastly the most prestigious game of 2011?

Game Of The Year: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

There was no surprise that best shooter would go to Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 3, keeping the call of duty series consistent winners of this category.

As usual Portal 2 managed to gather a load of awards, 5 awards and this again was no surprise for this game.

One of the surprises, at least to me was the sports game of the year, and not seeing FIFA take this as easily as I would have expected.

Now for game of the year it was good to see Skyrim to take the thrown away from Portal 2. Skyrim has had a huge launch and is up there beating modern warfare 3 as the most played game of 2011. (based on hours played and hours per session)

Reading an article online it picked up on a very interesting point about the awards.

Others criticize the award categories, some of which are confusing and seem to exist only to provide an opportunity to honour more games. Batman: Arkham City lost out to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the game of the year yet won Best Xbox 360 Game, despite the fact that Microsoft’s console is the most popular platform on which gamers play Bethesda’s RPG. If categories for specific platforms are to be included, the popular argument goes, shouldn’t they be limited to games exclusive to each platform?

How can batman win the best Xbox game when Skyrim is the most played game on Xbox? It doesn't really make sense about how that was figured out by the panel. The panel is made up of 25 game journalists, which in my opinion isn't the best option when deciding the best games of the year, and it's the actual customers, the gamers who really know what they like.

Overall it was a successful event for multiple games and there were some very obvious winners.

How do you feel about how the winners are decided and the results of the awards?

Best Shooter: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? Horrible. That game is just lag, campers, booster. Garbage game. But no one can out beat the cod fanboys.

Yay! No Battlefield! Just what I expected. Battlefield was a fail in my opinion. Too much hype. No game will ever beat CoD in sales. Dice is just dumb sometimes.

If you didn't read the thread the winners were decided by a panel of game journalists, so before this thread turns into a fanboy argument please read the thread

I still think Portal 2 should've won Game of the Year.

Also, in the title of your post you put "11th November" Awesome face

Like A.....
why give GOTY to skyrim lets be honest its a single player game and they really shouldnt win i mean yeah you may get a long play time for a SP game but after a month? you done all quests etc probaly less than a month whats left, find books?, random small trivial things, personal U3 should of got GOTY cause it is by far one of the best games ever and has multiplayer.

Portal could have won GOTY and shouldnt have won best multiplayer.

i finished portal 2 in a few weeks (due to PSN being down could do multiplayer side) but after that have i played it again... no, have 99% of the people who bought it... no, and multiplayer was good but i mean come on most people didnt finish it and what you got a few test cahmbers then what... of same as SP nothing there after... the games that should win are games that you keep playing... i mean to be honest minecarft should have won best multiplayer cause that is just epic....

GOTY should go to a game that keeps getting played i mean how many people go back to replay portal 2, or skyrim or others etc. but for example how many people play MW3 till next november... my GOTY should of been minecraft cause that is just a non stop can do anything and always somthing different.

Skyrim has infinite generated quests, dlc will be coming and the community actively supports it with mods ect. People will be playing Skyrim long before the next copy and paste cod comes out.
Also GOTY is based how good a game is not how long people will play it for.
