Law suits also came along with that and plenty of Infinity Ward workers left to join West and Zampella at their new firm, Respawn Entertainment. Activision needed to bring the developers together from Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to finish up Mw3. So far there has been nothing that has interrupted the franchise. </left>

Damn, I didn't realize that many people were working on the franchise. Although Activision may be greedy for their money, you have to admit that they did a hell of a job rebuilding Infinity Ward in order to finish MW3!

So Reaper, 500 developers are doing what..?

The fact that they have 500 devs working on call of duty just proves to the world how ill- managed the company is as a whole. EA only has 280 working on BF3, does that mean DICE works twice as hard? No. It means the devs actually get to work and put their hearts into a particular aspect of the game without one of 50 others in the same branch ruining it.

"This Call of Duty Franchise" refers to the Modern Warfare series, if I am reading this correctly. He is stating that 500 developers have worked on or are currently working on the Modern Warfare franchise which includes Call of Duty 4, MW2, and MW3 thus far. At least that is what I've interpreted it as.

the author quotes the intern as saying "this franchise" as in the particular franchise of call of duty (MW3 alone?)? or....?
