If you’ve missed GoldenEye 007—one of the best console first-person shooters ever made—and you have a gaming PC, you don’t have to miss GoldenEye any longer. It’s back, and it looks amazing.

GoldenEye: Source is a re-creation of the multiplayer mode for GoldenEye 007, released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 console. The influence of GoldenEye 007 on the FPS community cannot be overstated, but by today's standards, the original is very dated graphically. Going back to the old N64 might not be appealing for some.

Enter GoldenEye: Source, a project that took 10 years to create, according to its developers.

GoldenEye: Source uses Source 5.0, the latest iteration of the Source engine that drives Valve Software's hit games like Half-Life 2 and Left 4 Dead, to bring GoldenEye 007 multiplayer back to life and more in line with the current standards of graphics quality.

GoldenEye 007 veterans should love the return to the lovingly recreated maps, the Golden Gun, and the karate chop. And if the trailer is to be believed, GoldenEye: Source not only looks great, but it’s also smooth as hell.

GoldenEye: Source was made available for download Friday, and it will cost you nothing. Just head to the You must login or register to view this content. on the GoldenEye: Source website.

i'm glad companies and communities are going back and remastering old games like this to bring life into the golden age of gaming, but like toke said, you can't really remake a gem and have it be just the same.
