"Do you want to update now?"
And if I click yes, it says the latest version
is already installed on my Ps3.
My only option is to press back,
which brings me back to Sign in....?

what version do u have now? is it OFW or CFW?

Do this;

1. Backup youre Ps3, indeed youre ps3 ghets some strange error.

2. Put out youre Ethernet cable.

3. Ghet the Newest 3.56 OFW on youre usb.

4. Plug in youre usb, and read the update from the usb.

5. wait untill its done. and youre done

I tried this and all i get is some strance message saying. "there is no applicable data" what do i do??

all you have/had to do was/is take the DNS setting off from your internet connection settings

If your using a DNS bypass disable it (or proxy w.e). Happend to me today lol when i was trying to update so i can play online. it said that im already in the latest version but im on kmeaw 3.55 loolz took me a while to figure out im such a noob XD hope tis helps...
