because ive seen people with 11.5mbps with the same netgear router as mine (DG834G)
but mines only 1.2mbps
any helpful suggestions?

try a wired connection from your router to your ps3.

I get the same problem. I can wire it because it's too far lol

This has nothing to do with your speed. Your internet connection speed is provided by your internet provider which determines your speed.

Mine is 18 Mbps but, you have to divide that by 8, so I get normally around 1.5 to 2 Mbps.

The playstation will say your download speed and upload speed but, however, you must divide that by 8. It says my download speed is around 12 Mbps usually, even know I pay for 18 you almost never get that.

mate as was said it dont really depend on wired or not its your isp that determines your speed plus distance from the exchange

The bottom line is buy better Internet, and remmember you get what you pay for.
