you can try craiglist or you can do research on line for a store that carries a 120gb console still. The 120gb is the last console available with firmware lower than 3.55. I googled 3.55 ps3 and looked for shopping results and found two of them at a local toys r us. Do some research on this its better than buying someones used ready to dye console

Go to a local super market, and ask for the oldest PS3 they have. Hopefully you can get one that's 3.55 or lower. Try Ebay, as you said, or other shopping sites such as Amazon. I prefer Wal-Mart if you're not shopping online. Don't buy one at Gamestop though because if the PS3 doesn't work, you can't return it. But if you want to risk it, you can get a refurbished one or something. Rep if I helped.

eBay is quite good for that, search for ps3's with lower then 3.55 too and then you can just update to 3.55 or whatever, I got a PS3 on 2.72 or something firmware on eBay very cheaply.
