Sony Computer Entertainment Australia has been granted a temporary injunction to block the sale and distribution of those pesky mod chips. Until August 31st no one will be able to sell, import or export the devices and any firms with stock will have to release the units to Sony.

Sony has until the end of the month to convince the courts that a permanent ban should be in place, if they do not then sales will resume come September 1st. Here’s hoping Sony can do something to limit the potential for piracy that these chips present.

Australia only. I see why they picked Australia (Games are way over Priced) So they could pay a fraction for a rental..

Okay, how is this messing up??? An organization comes and hacks your system to where you can basically get free games? Yeah it is really bad that they would try to stop this from happening... Thats like you making a program with security so that no one else can have it then someone cracking it and selling it for there own profit around the world... This is 100% Great I am into the hacking scene and stuff but when you start stealing from a company that is crossing the line...

Ok, glad to hear that, I'm just going to try this to backup CoD5 and try homebrew and stuff, I'm not planning on piracy, because I'm sure I'd get caught, and it's wrong anyway, piracy will cause crappy games, I want to play legit backups and mod, that's why I want this, I understand your point, but also when sony removed OtherOS they stole from the consumers, so what difference does this make? Sony has deep pockets anyways, I'm just saying that they stole from us, if we steal from them it shouldn't be a bigger deal, but I do agree with your point to an extent.

They picked australia because the mod chips are being manufatured in australia so then they cant ship them from Australia to other countries.

Correct would block export to other countries, even though the US government has recently deemed them LEGAL to use for personal use. to improve the quality of your own equipment. But there you get into is the PS3 yours? Microsoft and sony both say the equipment is theirs and customers are just paying a 1 time LEASING FEE to use the equipment. I venture to say if that is the case then SONY and Microsoft should be held accountable for warrantee work indefinitely as its a lifetime lease should be a lifetime warrattee.

Do a barrel roll!
all or most of the modchip are made in china, ozmod is just a distributor, the main people that make them are psjailbreak.com

Always Faithful
I'm sure they'll make their way out regardless I'm sure another distributor will export them or maybe by chance someone will post the software/exploit itself on the internet. Either way I see this getting out.
