Post: PlayStation Network Outage Is Affecting Ubisoft, But Impact 'Minimal'
05-14-2011, 12:35 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); PlayStation Network still has no exact date for coming back online, and the outage is clearly hurting the revenues of some publishers and developers. Ubisoft is the latest publisher to comment on the PSN downtime, and the company's CEO Yves Guillemot acknowledged that it is affecting them - albeit just a little.

"It's affecting us. It's affecting the games we launched and it's affecting some games we've wanted to launch," he said on Ubisoft earnings call. Guillemot was probably referring to Housemarque's platformer Outland, which was just released on Xbox Live Arcade on April 27, but has been on hold for PSN because of the outage.

Guillemot continued, "The impact is still small because our revenue on this platform is not huge, so we think that altogether the cost will be minimal."

Furthermore, the impact isn't as great because Ubisoft generally relies on Microsoft's online service to generate more sales. Guillemot noted that Xbox Live Arcade revenues are "significantly higher at the moment."

Even with the basically minimal impact, Ubisoft is still somewhat frustrated that its multiplayer games can't be enjoyed by fans on PS3 right now.

Horrible grammar.

I don't think this is going to affect these companies a whole lot, although there is money to be lost. Once the Ps3 is back up people are going to want to buy the new games and add ons that come with it. These kids who spend 30 bucks a month on the PS3 store will now have even more money to spend and most likely will end up spending a whole lot more then they normally would have in two or three months time.

It will work out in the end.
