On Friday, I got the YLOD on my jailbroken PS3 ( WHYYYYYYY ) and I immediately did the YLOD fix on it. After I completed the fix, I noticed that my PS3 would only work for about 5mnutes, then it gives me that overheat message on PSN and soon after, it shuts off PS3 entirely.
Now today, I just got the thermal paste and applied it correctly thinking that would solve my problem, but it didn't.
So right now, I noticed after going through all options that it's the fan thats making the problem.
I have an Intercooler for my PS3 (The thing that attaches to the back) but it doesn't come on when I attach it.
Does anyone know what I can do to get my fan to start working? I'm thinking it has something to do with those 3 skinny chords that are connected to the motherboard or simply the thermal paste I added (dont see how thats the problem).
If the fan is broken, do i justt buy another 1 from somewhere and simply swap them out?
First off for a problem like this, you're going to want to trouble shoot everything. And I advise you urgently to
take off the intercooler from your PS3. I've heard numerous cases where that thing has caused YLOD and even
RROD for Xbox's. In short, external cooling devices are a no-no in my opinion.
Secondly, the thermal paste isn't the problem. That is directly applied to the heat sinks, so it has no effect
on the fans at all. (Unless you spilled the entire tube onto the wiring or something)
Unfortunately, given your current situation, you're going to need to re-open your PS3 if you haven't already.
Make sure that the fan is securely plugged into the motherboard. It draws its power from there, so if it
isn't plugged in (derp) then it won't turn on. Also, make sure that the heat sink is put securely back on.
I've had problems with Xbox's before where I didn't put the heat sinks back on properly, and it wouldn't turn on.
So that could also be a problem. Lastly, if all this fails, you might need to buy another fan. Who knows, you
could have shorted it out, which isn't that big of a deal. Just make sure it's the right voltage and watts otherwise
you'll just short it again. You need to have to correct fan with the correct amount of power. Contact Sony or
search the web for the right one, because I know the fan is a lot different than most fans found in PC's and what not.
Hopefully you can get your console running again. Best of luck :y:
