i got intrested in getting an external hard drive for backing up my ps3 games. The only thing is, how do you guys overide the fat32 less than 4gb rule? It does have to be in fat32 right? Is there anything else i should know about? I dont want to waste 100 bucks on a 1-2 tb external hardrive and not be able to use it. thanks and +rep to all good solid anwsers.

I have a 750GB external, it was previously formatted NTFS. Multiman did not pick it up, so I formatted to FAT32..Multiman still doesn't pick it up..dunno if other backup managers are able to detect externals, but multiman doesn't.

No problem..I might have the wrong version of multiman installed or something. I just wish it worked lol. The external works fine on my PC.

Also, I don't think the 4GB filesize limit will be much of a problem for the majority of games. Like for FO:NV, the largest file is like..almost 2GB I think. What games have files over 4GB?

I think Star Ocean and (maybe) FF13. I'll have to check.

It's SE, they love large size games. I highly doubt it, but it's possible.

JUST PURCHASED ONE THIS MAY HELP YOU
I JUST PURCHASED A 2TB EXTERNAL MYBOOK ESSENTIAL DRIVE
it was 3.0/2,0 and did not work
no 3.0 hdd will work no matter wat format you put it in

now get a 2.0 only hdd and it will work i just got a iomega 2tb 2.0 for aroung 120 at bestbuy
it works perfect for me and no problems you do need it in fat32 format

if you wonder like games are mostly around 7gb and think it wont work because it has the 4gb limit read
the games are not a single file so not one file is over 4gb
i have a 18gb game i just installed along with 27 more games lol
not a problem at all works great
