Alright so I have seen a lot of people asking many questions that have already been asked before, whether they gotten answered or not, I'm going to try and make a one stop pit stop for noobs of all ages, with technical answers and little kid answers.
what is the rebug cfw?
well rebug makes it so your ps3 can have debug options enabled. the most popular option would be np environment. it allows you to get on the psn dev servers.
how can i get on the dev servers?
if you would like to go on dev servers just install rebug completely. then go to np environment and type in "sp-int" without the quotes. then restart your ps3, make a new ps3 user. then go to quick sign up, and register that way, or go through complete sign up like regular.
can play on regular psn?
yes, you can. if you use one of the server mappers out, there are many out there, then you can play regular psn on some of the popular games.
can i add my regular psn friends?
no, you can not add your regular psn friends, since you are technically still on the dev psn. you can just foword your connection to the regular psn, but still cant add regular people.
can i get banned from psn using rebug cfw?
well this question is hard to answer, since sony can ban you, but so far they have not banned any one for using rebug psn like your supposed to. although if you cheat around then the odds increase.
can some one link me to the rebug cfw?
no, the rebug team said no hotlinking allowed. if you want it, go to their website. rebug.me
What are these private and public keys I keep hearing about?
let's start by replacing public with decrypt, and private with encrypt, because those are the two jobs they do. When you make a .self and want it to run on the ps3, you have to sign it, so you would use the private keys. When you want to edit a .self, or resign it for a lower firmware, you have to use the public keys to decrypt it, and to resign it for an older firmware you use that older firmwares private keys. The ps3 has the public keys on itself because it needs to use them to be able to understand the .self. But the private keys is what only Sony knows. If you want to know more, please refere to the video below.
Why can't we sign or run homebrew on 3.56+?
we can't sign or run any thing on the 3.60 because it has security holes patched, and we don't have any of the keys. so we cant just dump keys any more, and private keys are generated with a random ecdsa code. Even if you got homebrew onto the ps3 some how, you couldn't run the files because the ps3 won't run anything signed with 3.55 or lower keys.
Can I update from 3.50 or below to 3.55 cfw?
Yes, this is recomended. Update from 3.50 or below ofw to 3.55 ofw to 3.55 cfw. Download links are unnessecary as there's like twenty programs and threads with all firmwares. I recommend kmeaw cfw.
Should I update from 3.56?
Yes, the chances of 3.56 cfw are the same as 3.60 cfw. The reason I say this is because the 3.56 encryption is not blacklisted on 3.60. So if it happens that there's a 3.56 cfw, there will also be a downgraded for 3.60. Pm me about this if you still don't understand
How do I switch to different custom firmwares?
All you have to do is install original firmware, (through recovery is not needed, but may help) then install the cfw of your choice but system update - update with USB.
Can we jailbreak 3.56 or above?
No, the reason is we don't have the decryption keys for 3.60,but we do have the decryption keys for the 3.56, and we don't have the encryption keys for 3.56 or 3.60. The new jailbreak from kakaroto I think uses a different exploit, that he won't tell (called being smart)
Can't we just dump the keys from the ps3?
No, the ps3 does not contain encryption keys. And now the dumps from 3.60 have more security so that means no more finding decryption keys.
Can we downgrade 3.56+
Yes the only way to downgrade from 3.56+ is external NOR reflasher, and you need to have a back up of the NOR contents

No we can't, the auto key must be able to be spoofed on 3.55, but first we have to get the key.

I really don't think so, just because the ps3 under any circumstance is not made to downgrade. Have people actually downgraded from that or not, idk but I would try it if I were you.

Yes, the chances of 3.56 cfw are the same as 3.60 cfw.
Can we jailbreak 3.56 or above?
no, the reason is we don't have the decryption keys for 3.60, and we don't have the encryption keys for 3.56 or 3.60. The new jailbreak from kakaroto I think uses a different exploit, that he won't tell (called being smart)
Can't we just dump the keys from the ps3?
No, the ps3 does not contain encryption keys. And now the dumps from 3.60 have more security so that means no more finding decryption keys.
Can we downgrade 3.56+
No we can't, the ps3 needs to decrypt the lvl2.self so it can run, without that being decrypted, which it can't the ps3 will just stay in service mode, and have no idea what to do.
Can we go online with 3.55-?
No, we need to get the 3.60 auth key, then spoof that on 3.55.

Malthuelh says it is able to be dumped, but won't tell us were or how.
What's the best firmware?
Kmeaw hands down, it has more hacks patched into it then geohots cfw. It was made for backups/piracy. Highest compatibility.

the encryption keys are the private keys, decryption keys is public keys. The exploits the devs are using they say works on both 3,56 and 3.60. Well at least kakaratos. And yes I have heard of USB jailbreak, and it is obsolete cause it got patched on 3.42. An no way it's going to work or even need to work in the future. So now you confused all the noobs because they will read your post first and probably not even get to my post before they think less of me. /facepalm
