this Theory has been posted before and i don't think its that easy. search the threads and you can find your answer.
Edit: you can't bcuz once you extract it you have to sign it with sonys encryption so your ps3 will reconize it.

theory posted before also what is the point worrying over it now if you updated to 3.60? why not stay 3.55? dont wish to flame just getting a little tired of people (not you in particular) moaning about 3.60 not having cfw when it was their choice to update.

The backup can't be restored any differently than how it was made originally, the PS3 hard drive and backups have some sort of encryption that makes it so..

You would need to decrypt the backup DAT files in order to even tell what's holding what in each DAT
Until thats done , this theory won't work :O

I don't know how to edit the backup files. But I do know that if you backed your PS3 up when you had the hacked patches on it, then you can just restore your ps3 and you will have the hacked patches. This works on any ps3, and any firmware. Maybe people who have backed their JB PS3 up with custom patches would be willing to share the backup with you. I don't know anyone, and the only one I have is RK Killers CJ lobby for COD4. I don't have my ps3 backed up so i can't share it with you, but good luck finding backups.

it would not work 0n any firmware. if you backed up 3.55 with custom patch to a 3.60 ps3 the backups or homebrew wouldn't work.
