I got a used PS3 yesterday, and it's on 3.55. Apparently, according to the Rebug website, I can just write it over the OFW of 3.55 to install it, but uhhh...NO APPLICABLE UPDATE DATA WAS FOUND.
Look, I've re-named it to PS3UPDAT.PUP and nothing. I get PSN is down, but I don't care. I can't find Geohots CFW link anywhere, or Kemeaws. When I download the Rebug, I can't open it, which is fine. So I just copy and paste it on my flash, PS3>UPDATE>PS3UPDAT.PUP and remove it, and it won't ****ing read it. WTF AM I DOING WRONG?!
Have you tried installing the custom firmware from recovery mode?
Make sure you check your firmware version to be 3.55 first, (It can brick your ps3 if done on later firmware or incorrectly) Then this:
How to Access Playstation Recovery Menu
1. Turn off PS3.
2. Hold The power button down; The system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be promted to plug in your controller via usb and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.
There then should be an option to install update from usb.
This is assuming you have'nt tried it already, and have some prior knowledge of what you're doing.
Ok sorry you tried it already..
