This is risky because the firmware that was on the NAND before the person sold the motherboard and logic board could have had their Ps3 on the latest firmware, so this is a gamble, but if your room is dusty DO NOT TRY this. I made that mistake and dust got in my power supply now I have Red Light Of Death.
First you will need to buy a Motherboard and Bluray logic board PAIR (Do not buy them separately otherwise your Ps3 will not read discs)
You will then need to replace the motherboard
You must login or register to view this content. I found no Fat Ps3 guide so you would have to find it yourself if you have a fat Ps3.
There are also no guides on how to replace the Bluray logic board, but it is quite easy. Once you have unplugged your Bluray drive from the Ps3 (It is in the enclosed guide how to do this) Undo the 3 screws on the silver plate underneath the bluray drive. One open you will see a green chip (The logic board) and a circular shaped thing (This is the bluray alignment DO NOT TOUCH IT OR KNOCK IT, if you do it will be unaligned and your Bluray drive will not work) Take out the electrical ribbon from the top of the logic board, you will know what it is. Its the small green thing. Then you will need to gently lift it from the plastic prongs it sits on and tilt it so you can see underneath. Take out the 2 electrical ribbons on the bottom. The middle one has a small level you have to push to release. Then get your new logic board and fit it in the same way as shown before BUT but the pads from the old logic board onto your new one if it has none (They are normally a beige colour and sit ontop of some chips on the logic board) Put the 2 electrical cables in at the bottom first and then fix it in place and put the top electrical cable in. Then screw up the bluray drive and keep following the guide to change the motherboard and put the Ps3 back together.
For the job you will need:
Several screwdrivers (The ones needed are mentioned in the guide)
Thermal paste
A room with no dust.
After your finished turn it on and it will say your need firmware X.XX (X.XX could be anything between 3.50 > 3.61 for Slim Ps3s or 1.00 > 3.61 for Fat ps3s)
Put that firmware on a USB stick and press start and select on your Ps3 controller to update. But if it is the firmware you did not want, its not all bad this also unbans you from Black Ops.
