Does the controller connect? If not then its most probably bricked. If it does try resetting video settings:

1) Have PS3 off
2) Hold down ON button for 2 bleeps
3) let go and let it boot

This resets video

it connects through usb cable only
is there a way to un brick it

Have you tried resetting video and then entering recovery mode?
