If you're not happy with the temps just increase the fan speed a little, but your temps seem okay. A slim can reach temps of 70 c while gaming and a fat/phat can reach sometimes over 80 c while gaming. It doesn't matter much what thermal paste is used as it will only give you a few Celsius difference, but i only personally use thermal grizzly kryonaut paste. High temps are usually caused from a build up of dust inside the console or from dry paste under the heat spreader (ihs) plates. If you're going to change your paste don't worry too much about the application method as all methods usually give exactly the same results, just make sure to clean the plates and heat sink thoroughly before reapplying and that you have enough paste to cover the plates and don't use too much especially if it's a conductive paste as it can short out your motherboard.

If you're running on a CFW. I suggest to just change your fan settings from mmCM.
