I'm not sure if that means I can't downgrade at all or If I can only downgrade with a flasher or something?

you probably have a 500GB Super slim, these cannot install any CFW nor downgrade at all, if you want limited homebrews and play copied games you should go with Cobra ode, requires some soldering skill to get it working on superslim
