You can turn it on if you want but might make things difficult to connect and it might help with DDOS if its a DDOS protected router.

so leave it off ? or on it just says firewall protection

if it s already on i would leave it on but if you want to try it out and see if it helps or not and if you have problems after you turn it on you can turn it off.
