Post: Metal Gear Solid 2 (MGS2) Save Decrypter and Checksum Fixer
04-08-2016, 05:45 PM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hello NextGenUpdate,

I had some free time and I decided to reverse the encryption for Metal Gear Solid 2.
It was a pretty tough, but I managed to figure it out.

Now you can take the full advantage in editing your save data.

The usage is the same for most of my tools shown below:

USAGE: metal_gear_solid_2_save_data_decrypter [options] <Awesome faceATA.BIN> <MASTER.BIN>
OPTIONS:
-d - Decrypt file
-e - Encrypt file
-h - Show help
ARGUMENTS:
<Awesome faceATA.BIN> - Stores data that contains in-game information
<MASTER.BIN> - Contains the checksum for the save data

Also I managed to get checksum fixer working!
This here will calculate the checksum and replace it with the calculated one.

The usage uses the same format as the above command line tool:

USAGE: metal_gear_solid_2_save_checksum_fixer [options] <Awesome faceATA.BIN>
OPTIONS:
-d - Display the file checksum only
-v - Verify the stored save checksum
-c - Calculate and replace the stored checksum
-h - Show this help
ARGUMENTS:
<Awesome faceATA.BIN> - Stores data that contains in-game information

The steps in order to successfully mod your save data would be:
Step 1: Decrypt your save data via BruteforceSaveData aka ("BSD").
Step 2: Decrypt using my tool and add your cheats to the save data.
Step 3: Use my checksum fixer on the save data while it's still in its decrypted state.
Step 4: Encrypt back using this tool.
Step 4: Re-encrypt using BSD.

Now it should successfully load your save and your cheats will load up in the game.

Also I'll be working on the rest of the MGS series.
