(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Everyone knows about “Battle Royale” games like*Fortnite*and*PUBG. What they may not know is that those games owe a lot to titles like*DayZ*and*H1Z1. The latter is now headed to PS4; giving players yet another challenger for the battle royale throne. Those who want to try the newly-designed*H1Z1*can do so during the open beta which launches on May 22.

“H1Z1*on PS4 is true battle royale mayhem,” said*H1Z1*Producer Terrence Yee. “We have reimagined the game for PlayStation 4 and have designed it to accentuate the essentials of battle royale that make the genre so exciting to watch and play. We have added key gameplay differentiators to keep the game frantic and fun — an action shooter’s dream of fast-paced battle royale.”

H1Z1*has traditionally been a PC game. Now that it is on PS4, its control scheme has been reworked for the DualShock 4. The game has a “grab-and-go” equipment system, which makes it easier to collect loot and manage one’s inventory. It also has a weapon wheel; allowing users quicker access to guns and grenades. The HUD has also been revamped. Keeping with the streamlined nature of the title, the crafting system has been removed.

Since this is a battle royale game, players will need to scour the map to find equipment like guns, body armor, helmets, first-aid kits, and grenades. These are located in almost all buildings. To get better equipment, users must keep an eye out for airdrops. These supply players with weapons like the AK and AR, in addition to the new KH43, CNQ-09, Marauder, MK46, Combat Shotgun, and Scout Rifle. Airdrops also provide the best armors which in turn help players live longer. They must prepare to fight when going to an airdrop site since others will surely seek them well.

Airdrops have level 1 equipment. To get level 2 and level 3 weapons and gear, players must carefully search the ever-shrinking map for special crates containing the rare loot. Tier 2 and 3 weapons are also delivered via crates from airdrops. This requires a more passive style of gameplay.

Tier 1 through 3 items are found in crates that come in via airdrops. They emit a colored beam in the sky when they land. Green is for tier 1, blue is for tier 2, and gold is for tier 3. As mentioned above, players will converge on these spots to secure the loot. Tier 1 crates are also scattered throughout the map. To find them, users must keep their ears and eyes open for low radio chatter and a signal beacon when they are close.

Starting today through May 22, players can pre-order a special*H1Z1*bundle for $29.99. This bundle includes in-game cosmetic items which are granted at the start of the open beta. Those who pre-order will also get a dynamic theme at the time of purchase. PlayStation Plus subscribers can buy the bundle for 20% off at the PlayStation Store. Players can sign up for the first closed beta weekend (which starts this month) by heading over to the game’s*official website.
