To be more specific, in this patent application they talk about awarding trophies using disk access "triggers".

No one knows what’s this about either, but it does sound intriguing.


Sony has filed a new patent which details different methods of offering trophies to users. The one that was discovered is called “Method and Apparatus for awarding trophies”.

“The method and apparatus are used to detect particular disk access, use the detected disk access as potential trophy triggers in games, and recognize the triggers while a game is played. Trophies are awarded based on the triggers, and the awarded trophies are stored.”

I thought since 2011 all games had to have trophies? It'll be interesting if this is implemented into ps4 and how we unlock our trophy achievements.

Seems like they are making it harder for them self's to do something simple. Taking a loooooong unnecessary route just to make it more difficult for future trophy hackers to crack.

Allowing trophies and rewards from playing games on PS3 could be. This could never see the light of day.
