Well with CFW you can do alot for example you can download any game that comes out and play it even ones that are not out yet in america. There is a fun cheat system for when your bored and what to add cheats to your games. You can add custom XMBs to make your psp look like anything you want it to for example i have one that makes mine look like a alienware computer desktop, a xbox 360, windows 7 operating system,a iphone and so much more.
As well as all sorts of homebrew apps and homebrew games.

well the purpose of CFW (legally) is to make backups of your games that you brought if you paid for them and play them if you loose the UMD, also homebrew apps is another good reason to have CFW like emulators costome themes and other good stuff and lastly theres the pirate games (illegal but no one gets arrested for it lol) and they download them for free online and another great reason to have CFW is patches people make like modded games or english patches for japanese exclusive games like Kingdom Hearts Birth By SLeep for example its all english voice but all japanese text, with CFW you can download and english patch and play it in 100% english hope i helped
