(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The NFLPA (players' association) Said it will "Decertify" renouncing its status as a union and becoming a trade association instead.

arrangements made in the past between the union and the NFL will no longer be immune to competition law.

THE DEBATE

After a long 16 days of talk and many NFL players wondering if there'll be another season this year, the sides could NOT negotiate a new deal.

The sticking point was how to distribute the NFL's $9bn in annual revenues.

Players for the NFL's 32 teams currently receive 60% of the revenues, something the clubs' owners see as too generous.

The NFL takes $1.3bn for costs but it says these have risen steeply since the previous deal was struck in 2006 and it now wants to take $2.3bn, which would mean less money for the players.

The talks also covered wages, drug testing, pension benefits, and plans to increase the number of regular-season games from 16 to 18.

The current agreement expires at the end of Friday.
-----------------------------------------------

So, in other words, will there be another NFL season for 2011-2012? It seems doubtful.

In MY opinion, I think it's because of the players. All they want is the money and won't settle for anything less then what they're getting.

Yeah it's bullshit... Hopefully the NBA can get a deal done though... They seem less greedy then the NFL lol.

Doubtful? No ****ing way. I guarantee that their is an NFL season, and I'm willing to guarentee that they don't play a shortened season either.

I don't know man.

I thought there was for sure going to be another season this year, but after reading that I don't know.

It seems like a HUGE loss for many people, but I don't know.

The NFL is so rich, the players can play one game with there salary right now and have enough money to live with without making another penny. So I don't know why they can't settle on a deal.

Except that isn't the case. Between the guys who go out and run up 100k bar tabs, to the 50k on the rocks in their ears, to the 250k car they get around in, to everything else these guys feel obligated to buy for whatever reason. There are FAR more players that are going to need money then those that were smart enough to save it up.

Yeah, that's the problem.

60%?? That's insane, considering how much money the NFL makes each year.

The clubs are right, it's way too generous. We should've seen this coming a long time ago when players started asking for more money.

I guess we'll have to see what happens in a week or two.

Also, if everything takes place as it is suppose to. The Players will file some lawsuit (name escapes my mind at the moment) which will block the league from locking out. This very may well be what the league wants, and very well what every business wants that has a union. This would allow the NFL to do everything as normal but without a player union. There would be no Vet Minimum, your long-snappers could get paid only 50k a year etc.
