(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); There are rumours going around that Portsmouth FC will have to stop trading because of financial troubles. They more than likely won't go into administration first because it will be HM Revenue and Customs who they owe money. HM Revenue & Customs have the powers to force a company to stop trading with immediate effect. Premier league rules state that if a club is unable to complete the fixture list their results will be expunged for the league table. This means the table could look like this:

NOW GP GD PTS
Chelsea 25 +40 58
Man U 25 +41 56
Arsenal 25 +30 49
Liverpool 25 +17 44 <<
Tottenham 25 +20 43
Man City 23 +13 41
Villa 24 +13 41

EX-POMPEY
GP GD PTS
Chelsea 25 +39 55
Man U 25 +33 50
Liverpool 25 +19 44 <<
Arsenal 25 +24 43
Tottenham 25 +19 40
Man City 23 +10 35
Villa 24 +11 38

This could be a very good thing for Liverpool. Our season could be saved just from this. As much as I want to see Liverpool be higher up the table, I really hope Pompy get out of this.

Surprised United aren't in this sort of debt as well. Your debts are redunkulous.

yeh its a sorry disgrace what has happened to a club who only a few years ago won the fa cup. but getting a rich middle eastern prince wont solve a thing. maybe a few clubs should look at the arsenal way of managing a club. there one of only a few clubs to actually have a profit nearly every year. of course recent results have gone against them but id rather be in arsenals position than portsmouths

thats where your wrong calling it a sport, its now not so much sport its a business the money in the prem is so much its all about trying to stay here, clubs like portsmouth are living proof of major spending with no real success, porthsmouth wont be the first club an im sure wont be the last club to have major debts

HMR&C are claiming the Portsmouth are insolvent! This is not looking good for Pompy. However Pompy are claiming that they have two potential buyers. I can't see it going through in time and the prospective new owners being able to sort things out... Premiers league rules state that players staff and other clubs must be paid first before any other debts... This would mean the new owns would have to clear Pompy's around 20 million debts before they would be allowed to pay a further 11.5 million to HMR&C....

Edit: Pompy have an adjournment, they have 7 days to prove they have the money... Considering Cardiff and Southend had 28 days, Pompy are up shit creek.

Edit again: The next court hearing will be in 9 days because its the first available time after the 7 days. The will also have to provide a statement of affairs to prove that the money will be paid.

portsmouth are gonna be the first top flight team to go into admin an be duducted 10 points its a shame because only a few years ago they won the fa cup but that success has come at this price, with them losing 10 points they will basicly be relagated an that will probley be the end of that football club

It's **** all to do with being fair. Do you think any successful businessman got anywhere by being fair? If they greedy wankers at the top don't pay the tax-man things like this happen..

i dont think its greedy men at the top its more of a case of portsmouth acting like leeds, spending a mass amount of money on players but them players struggle to have the impact they thought they would have hence they are in the postion they are in, its a fine line lower tier clubs have to play, do they spend the 20+ million they get for being in the prem or dont spend it an hope they are good enough, portsmouth spent a lot of money over the past few years an its backfired hence the postion they find themselfs in now
