Thumbs up How to play PC games with a PS3 Controller [SETUP TUTORIAL]

Now I need to say this first, I do not have the correct files for 64 bit PCs, If anyone could find those for me it would be very helpful, but that means you can't do it until I have the 64 bit drivers, but if you find them on your own, continue with the tutorial using those files. Also this tutorial is done on windows vista, but it is very similar to windows 7 so don't worry!

    Let's get started.

    Step 1

Firstly what you want to do is download the ps3 drivers , don't worry if you don't know what that means, you don't need to! Download them at this link: (32 bit files)

You will be directed to a page like this, the download will start automatically:

    Step 2

What I advise you to do is to make a folder on your desktop like so:

Then extract the contents of the file you downloaded using winrar.

These are the files that will come out :

    Step 3

Now you need to get your USB to PS3 Controller cable, connect your PS3 remote to the cable and plug it into the PC. The PC should make that noise it makes when you've connected a USB or whatever and the PS3 remote's four lights should start flashing. Once it's in, go to the bottom left and click the start button and type in "Device manager" like so:

Click on the second program (your may not necessarily be the 2nd)

    Step 4

A hardware tab will pop up, once it has, you'll want to click "Human interface Devices" like so:

Now there should be one in there called "USB Interface Device" or something like that, or it may be the same as mine, but mine says DualShock whatever because I've already done it.

Right click it and click "Update Driver Software"

    Now click browse

    Then this option

Then select USB human interface device

    and click "Have Disk"

    Then hit Browse

Locate the folder where you extracted the contents of that .rar file and select the top one

Then select the top one again

You select it, it will install and you're done, you can close all of those windows. Now you need to program the controller, but don't be afraid, programming and coding is worse than Chinese to me and this program I am going to show you is perfect for people like me and maybe like you!

    Step 5

Before we program we just have to check that the remote is there, so go to the bottom left again and hit start, "Game controll" like so:

and start the program that looks like this:

Select the PS3 controller and hit properties:

    Now you should see this:

All you have to do is hit buttons on your ps3 remote and those numbers will light up, and if you move the analog stick that X in the middle of that box will move, as long as some of those things are happening, then you have done everything correctly so far, if they aren't happening do steps 1-4 again and if that doesn't work then you have a 64 bit computer.

Just an example of this being done to show you what should be happening:

Now we need to program it.

    Step 6

Now you download a program called Xpadder, here is a link to download the full program for free:

    here is its icon :

I made a video explaining how to set this small part up, watch it below!

    - sorry it's a little laggy, not sure why

Just a few tips with this bit because it can be quite confusing! when you hit enable, you need to move the buttons it tells you to move. So when it shows you this:

move the analog stick left then up. (Just giving this tip because otherwise you won't configure it properly.)

When you get to the buttons tab, you need to click every button on the PS3 remote: PS button, Start, select, L1,L2,R1,R2, Triangle, Circle, Square, X, and you also need to push down the analog sticks for things like stabbing, arrange them like I do in the video, it makes it a LOT easier I am telling you now! (If you are confused please watch my youtube video below)

    Step 7

    Open the spoiler:

    Spoiler:
Now there's 2 things you can do, you can program it yourself following my tutorial, or you can skip this step by downloading my profile and opening it on xpadder, here is the download:

to use my profile hit this and then click open and locate the file you downloaded, then continue onto the next step, otherwise continue with this step!!

Now we need to manually program it!

Here is what you will get (without the letters on the buttons etc.) after you've done step 6:

Now all you have to do is, follow the picture, assign each key to a certain control, just to give you an example because it can be quite confusing. So if the L key means Aim down sight on COD 5, assign L to L1, it's as simple as that! But to be perfectly honest, I suggest just downloading my profile (or if you don't want to do that, WATCH THE VIDEO!)!

Once you're done you need to save both the layout and profile (hit the 2 icons before the long bars):

AND YOU'RE DONE! Go ahead and play all the games you want! I recommend watching my video tutorial below, it is a lot more helpful to be honest, and it goes into more detail and includes anything I'v missed out here by accident if I have! (excuse my voice, it was a while ago!)

P.S. if you're going to watch it on youtube, use the download links I provide here

    Thanks for reading,

    enjoy!

There's actually a much more simple way of doing this, basically all you do is install this Program: And then hook up your PS3 Controller to you PC, you can adjust profiles and even make your PS3 controller emulate that of an 360

As Mr. Qwax said, MotionJoy is awesome. That and you can emulate the Ps3 remote to be a Xbox 360 remote with a simple toggle and have it fully functional with lots of games. I played Portal 2 with my remote like that and have dualshock functioning and everything

Nice tutorial by the way, very thorough

"if that doesn't work then you have a 64 bit computer" wow.... would've saved me some time if you noted this doesn't work with 64 bit computers as MOST computers are 64bit operating systems now lol
