Default League of Legends - Graves Build Guide

    Graves - The Outlaw

Graves is an AD Carry that excels at taking down opponents with ferocious firepower and exceptional damage. Graves is
the strongest AD Carry in the game right now, and I'll show you how I pummel my opponents in ranked games.

General Info: Graves excels so much in punishing opponents due to his ability to dish out a lot of damage rapidly.
His Q Ability combined with agility and slow make him a grueling enemy to go against. However, the thing that makes
Graves the best AD Carry in the game is that he can have exceptional synergy with almost any support thrown in the bot lane.
No matter the composition of the lane, Graves does extremely well with that person. I'll talk a little more about good synergies
    a little later.

Let's take a look at his abilities.

    Passive:

    Q:

    W:

    E:

    Ultimate:

Tips for Q: Graves' Q ability is the ultimate harassment tool. It's great for pushing waves of minions when needed, and does a lot of damage
to enemies in a cone in front of you. This ability is fairly easy to land, but be wary of its relatively short range. If you're harassing someone, make
sure they're in range or you'll find yourself wasting precious mana.

Tips for W: W fires a smoke screen that is both beneficial in offensive and defensive playing. On the offensive, you can use W to slow an enemy from
potential escape. Also, when enemies are in the AoE (Area of Effect) they are wrought with reduced vision and can't see allies who aren't in the circle.
This is great for confusing enemies and making people panic. On the defensive side, firing W while running away to slow down those who are on your tail.

Tips for E: E causes Graves to dash to a target location within a range of 425 units. After dashing, Graves receives an attack speed steroid.
E is effective for taking out objectives and enemies quicker and getting yourself out of sticky situations in teamfights. If you find yourself out of
position, try to use E before you waste a flash. Protip: Graves can dash through most thin walls. (i.e Wall to Blue Buff, Wall behind Dragon, etc.)

Tips for R: Graves' ultimate is where the real fun begins. It can be used to secure a kill and also may need to be used to initiate teamfights.
What I mean by this is that after someone else on your team initiates, don't be afraid to use your Ultimate to take away a good portion of health from your enemies
while they are all bunched together. This is effective because after reaching a certain range, it explodes into a cone and damages enemies within it.
Firing Graves' ultimate at the right time is all up to the player, but don't be shy with it.

Misc. Tips: A strong combo to start off a 2v2 fight with is W>Q>E. This will ensure you get maximum damage and then have a decent
gap closer with your dash at the end to ensure that they don't get away from your onslaught. And if you have your ultimate, let that rip too if you got it.

Remember, AD Carries are naturally squishy. Graves has a bit of bulk, and with his passive ability he can take a little bit of harassment, but don't
overextend to the point where you're stranded. Graves is a primary target, so make wise decisions about when you use your E. Do you use it to pick
up a kill, or to escape a possible death?

Let's take a look at runes and masteries:
Graves has a standard cookie cutter AD Carry rune page and the same goes for his masteries. I can't really explain why I have this as my
setup, but it's given me success so I'll keep sticking with what I got.

You can switch the AD Quints for Armor Pen ones if you would like.

    Item Build:
Naturally, any ranged carry I play I start off with Boots and 3 Health Pots. Some people like to start with Doran's Blades, but it's all about preference.
Boots and 3 Health Pots is a pretty safe setup and focuses on helping you stay in lane longer to able to CS.

Infinity Edge: Infinity Edge is a standard on every AD Carry in the game. Huge amount of damage as well as a nice passive which increases
the amount of damage your critical attacks do. I rush this item first and make sure I have it by at least 12 minutes into the game. Good farming and last
    hitting is required.

Berserker's Greaves: Another standard item for AD Carries. Gives increased attack and movement speed which is a must.
I should be clear that I don't get these after my Infinity Edge. Rather, I get them during. Depending on how my CS is and if I've gotten a kill or two,
I will either buy a B.F Sword and then get boots, or I will have to sacrifice and get a Pickaxe so that way I can get my boots.

Zeal: Zeal is actually a situational item, but I always build it on Graves. Bonus movement and attack speed, and increased
critical strike chance are simply pluses, and this can be built into a Phantom Dancer late game if you wanted. However, I don't recommend
building it into a Phantom Dancer unless you're outright winning the game. I just don't think it's necessary.

Last Whisper: Last Whisper is a great item for Graves and any ranged carry for that matter. The reason last whisper is so beneficial
is due to it's +40% armor penetration which tears through enemy tanks mid and late-mid game. Plus an extra 40 attack damage isn't too shabby either.

The Black Cleaver: My God is this item perfect for Graves. Coinciding with Last Whisper, this item a pure Godsend and will melt opponents with
an increased attack damage of 55, +30% attack speed, and a passive that reduces a targets armor by 15 for 5 seconds. (Up to three stacks of this can
be applied on a target) Not only does this item due exceptional work for Graves, it makes Last Whisper an even stronger item. By the point in the game that
you get this item, you'll be doing A LOT of damage and with increased armor penetration, you'll be doing even more than that.

After this, you can pretty much build whatever 6th item you would like on Graves. You could build that Zeal into a Phantom Dancer, or,
if you're feeling funky build a Frozen Mallet. I do it occasionally because it gives Graves a nice slowing capability other than his W, and
gives him a nice amount of health too.

At the end of the game my standard build looks something like this:

    or

Synergies with Supports: Like I said before, Graves is functional with pretty much any support that you throw in bot lane.
However, here is a list of the top 3 people that work the best with Graves.

Being that Graves is mana hungry, Soraka compliments Graves the best. She has potent heals, and
a spell for giving an ally mana, or silencing an enemy. Overall, Soraka is a great choice to coincide with Graves.

Alistar is great at knocking enemies away from his own AD Carry, as well as putting enemies out of position
and having them face their demise. However, if the Alistar you play with decides to go Rambo, he could end up doing more harm
than good. People fear his presence so he becomes a great utility for zoning the enemy carry away from you. Overall, Alistar is a great
choice, but remind your support to play "support".

He's gay. So what? The secret to Taric's success as a support champion is his hair. Just kidding. He has
stun that has decent range, a passive aura that grants nearby allies increased armor, and has the best looking lips you'll ever see on a man.
Pick support Taric if you want to win and look good while doing it.

Well, that's all for now. If you have any other questions or concerns, just feel free to ask me and I'll try and help!
    Have fun Summoners!

Can I ask why Black Cleaver over a Bloodthirster, and having both Zeal and Phantom Dancer?

If you land every single auto attack in late game with his maxed E, that already provides incredibly fast attacks and completely recharges the E, effectively giving you a permanent attack speed buff, plus a dash for positioning.

I feel like instead of having Zeal, PD, and BC, you'd be better off with PD, BT, and QSS/BV/GA. You have no defensive items at all... he's tanky, but not that tanky.

Also, if you are maxing Q first, a level 2 W will instantly clear caster minions. Level 3 W will allow you to clear all minions. Another tip you might want to add for tips under W.

The Black Cleaver is there for late game when people start to build armor. It has a 3 stack armor debuff that synergizes with Last Whisper. As
long as you keep your positioning correct, you'll be able to get those 3 stacks off an enemy. And the Zeal gets built into the PD.

Quick Silver Sash, GA, or anything else is only necessary if you're going into very late game and you keep getting focused extremely hard. With that being said,
if you conserve and use your flash and E at the proper times, you shouldn't need a QSS. Especially if you have good positioning in fights.

You can build a Blood thirster if you would like. I'm just saying that this build is the one I have the most success with.
