And why you want to take out the SIM Card for upgrade?

Easiest way is to download : iDrive Contacts from the Appstore (it's free), it will let you Back up all your contacts

then you can restore, after you restore, just go back on the appstore, download the app again and click Restore contacts

( the app doesnt need any registration or whatever, it will find back your contact thanks to your IMEI or some MAC key of some sort )

ive sorted it now i used itunes to back up my contacts then i used redsn0w to make a custom ispw to preserve my baseband now im on 5.0.1 jaibroken peice of cake
