Honestly the 980 wouldn't be a smart choice. Nvidia just announced the GTX 1060 which is supposed to MSRP at $250 and leaked specs imply it has better performance than the 980. I'd either wait for that or go with a 1070.

Get the 1080. No sense in cheaping out splurge.

you dont need a upgrade with a 970 its still plenty fast

Get a GTX 1060 as they are only $249, I wouldn't bother with a 1070, I would get two 1060's before i would get a 1070, cheaper aswell .

Would get the 980 Ti or 1080. Depends on what games u play on though.
