Ever since the Xbox 360 introduced cross-game chat to its Xbox Live users, enabling them to party up with and chat with players in other games, PlayStation 3 fans have wondered when Sony would implement such a feature on the PSN. As it turns out, the reason we've been waiting so long for this feature, is because the PS3 simply cannot do it. There are memory restrictions in place that would make it impossible Shuhei Yoshida said.

A RAM usage feature of the console prevents a cross-game chat feature, Yoshida You must login or register to view this content..

Quote: "Once a game gets RAM we never give it back," he said. "It's not possible to retrofit something like that after the fact...The game has to use its own memory to do in-game voice chat. There's always voice chat in the game. But it's part of a game feature. It's not part of an OS feature. That's the reason in terms of the ability to have voice chat across different games."

So what do you have to say about this? Leave some feedback and your opinion's in a post below! Hopefully they will bring this feature into the Ps4 though.

Also why cant they just use virtual memory? Its not like everyone has used all of the memory on the ps3 hard drive, they would only need about 512 mb at MOST, and they could do it by having a software update.

Yep and you think Sony would put it in with all of that. But nope. No

Why doesn't he implement a feature that is OS based? Uses little to no ram, and it can be joined, like a party hosted on their servers? idk somethin..

This is not because the PS3 can't handle it, it's because the OS is not built for it. Go tell microsft to support Adobe CS5 on an i7 machine running windows 98, its the same thing. Don't think Sony is lying to you when they are honestly telling customers what they pay for, unlikely Microsoft.

I say they better figure something out and get a damn good FW update out there that changes all of that! I mean, they were able to take Other OS completely out, weren't they? So they should be able to tell the ps3 what the hell to do!

Couldn't they just release a newer version of the ps3...?

I’m too L33T
infact it is possible but you need the game to run off another program something that the ps3 boots into or simply a startup program
but this won't work for all games sense some of them use the full RAM all 512 of it

examples:
Killzone 3
FFXIII
GoW3

so like i said it is "theoretically" but can raise security issues

Bullshit, the ps3 can be used as a pc, play blu ray, bluetooth and everything but no party chat?

I say; finally.

Finally Xbox 360 users have something better than PS3 users. It really is about time something came along that edged out the competition.
