Ever since the Xbox 360 introduced cross-game chat to its Xbox Live users, enabling them to party up with and chat with players in other games, PlayStation 3 fans have wondered when Sony would implement such a feature on the PSN. As it turns out, the reason we've been waiting so long for this feature, is because the PS3 simply cannot do it. There are memory restrictions in place that would make it impossible Shuhei Yoshida said.

A RAM usage feature of the console prevents a cross-game chat feature, Yoshida You must login or register to view this content..

Quote: "Once a game gets RAM we never give it back," he said. "It's not possible to retrofit something like that after the fact...The game has to use its own memory to do in-game voice chat. There's always voice chat in the game. But it's part of a game feature. It's not part of an OS feature. That's the reason in terms of the ability to have voice chat across different games."

So what do you have to say about this? Leave some feedback and your opinion's in a post below! Hopefully they will bring this feature into the Ps4 though.

I'VE GOT JUNGLE FEVER
Yeah I always thought is was a ram problem, it seems so cheap though to just have 256mb of ram. Why not like 2GB these days?

PS3's lifespan is coming to an end anyway, as is the Xbox's. Both consoles are extremely outdated in hardware, and both Sony and MS need to bring out something fast.
Whilst some of you are probably saying its only been five years, Sony supposedly had a 10 year plan for the PS3 at launch, but I don't think they thought there would be such an advance in computer hardware. I'm currently using a laptop now with a AMD X2 Processor, 1.8Ghz, Ok Graphics Card, and 1GB of Ram, this Laptop is four years old. It cost me close to a thousand euros. Today, something 5x better could be gotten for the same price of less.
Basically, the first one of them to bring out a new affordable console that takes full advantage of today's hardware is going to be victorious in the console war, as long as it also has a good OS.

I personally am not a huge fan of party chat anyway. I usually only play multiplayer with my friends so I can talk to them in gamechat, and I don't like use party chat when I'm playing a story mode. I also don't like it due to the fact that very few people use Mics on Xbox LIVE outside of being in a party. I love talking to people online, friendly smacktalk, but on Xbox LIVE its a lot harder to find because most people are in party chat.

Trolling is a art
It could be done. For example, the Xbox Party Chat is completely separate of games. Whereas th ein game chat is of it's own. So the PS3 could do it. Currently on PS3 each game has it's own chat system. But Sony could just develop a system independent of games, like the Xbox. but they won't because they're lazy and it would cost too much.
